Much-needed facelift for Thorney Island path

WORK is taking place to replace part of a coastal footpath which has fallen into disrepair.

Currently the public footpath around Thorney Island is closed while work takes place on the section north of St Nicholas’ Church, which was very uneven and muddy.

The work is expected to take around three weeks and is being carried out by Chichester Harbour Conservancy, with support from the Friends of Chichester Harbour, West Sussex County Council and Defence Estates.

Local officer Nicky Horter said: “As heavy machinery is operating on the site, we have had no alternative but to close the route. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused, and have planned the works at a quiet time of year. A much improved path will soon be ready for all walkers.”
