Mother and daughter became models for the evening at the Tuppenny Barn ethical Christmas fashion show in Southbourne on Friday.

Maxine Carter, one of the many volunteers at My Sisters’ House, the Arun and Chichester women’s centre, was joined on the catwalk by her daughter Holly.

They thoroughly enjoyed their moment of fame, modelling upcycled clothes made by My Sisters’ Makers.

Marion Wells, the lead volunteer seamstress at My Sisters’ Makers, said: “Tuppenny Barn’s ethical Christmas fashion show was the perfect opportunity to model our range of upcycled winter coats and children’s clothes.

“Our ethical sewing project, supported by West Sussex County Council, has resulted in one apprentice moving on to university and one apprentice moving into a sewing career.

“It’s obviously still offering exciting new ventures to others involved.”

The upcycled coats worn at the show are available at the Makers Boutique at 78 London Road, Bognor Regis, where the project has currently diversified.

Not only will customers find upcycled clothes there but with the amazing talents of the staff, a new alterations and commissions service is also now on offer.

The smallest boutique in town, it also has children’s clothes and upcycled and handmade Christmas gifts.

The My Sisters’ Makers sewing project raises funds for My Sisters’ House CIC Women’s Centre, which is based at 108c London Road, Bognor Regis.

The fashion show promoted alternative ways to shop for clothing.

Centre manager Emma Crane-Robinson said: “Ethical and sustainable fashion is a perfect fit with our ethos at Tuppenny Barn in that every single decision we make as a consumer has an impact on the world’s natural resources and the environment.”

The Tuppenny catwalk also showcased brands such as People Tree, Earthmonk, St Wilfred’s Hospice Vintage and Retro Shop and the M&S Fairtrade and organic range.
