New facilities welcome elderly back to East Wittering village hall

THE elderly and infirm have welcomed the installation of a brand new accessible toilet at East Wittering village hall.

The new facility comes complete with baby change facilities and it is suitable for wheelchair users and the infirm.

Demand for the new toilet came from disabled residents who were prevented from visiting the hall because of the lack of suitable facilities.

West Sussex County Council awarded £3000 from its Member’s Big Society fund to support the project.

Michael Pettman, from the East Wittering village hall committee, said: “The expectations of elderly people have increased greatly in the past few years. They no longer expect to be stuck at home.

“There are over 20 groups who use this village hall on a regular basis, such as the W.I, who have elderly and disabled members. Because of this new facility, they are now coming back.”

Michael Brown, cabinet Member for finance and resources, said: “It is great to see East Wittering Village Hall, which is at the centre of its community, become more inclusive for everyone.

“We were delighted these improvements have been made and we are proud to have supported it.”
