The volunteers are local parents themselves, as having parenting experience is the only criteria to becoming a valued Home-Start volunteer.

The volunteer training is delivered by Home Start staff at their office on St James Road, Chichester. The training covers many things to help the families that each volunteer visits be the best parents that they can be, by helping them with practical and emotional support. The volunteers will be matched with local families and will provide a life line through their weekly 2 hour visits.

The ten new volunteers join a team of dedicated volunteers totalling almost 40, who across Chichester District will help around 80 local families this year. Families are supported by Home-Start for many reasons including ill health, disability, mental health issues, bereavement, multiple births and also just finding it challenging coping with the demands of a young family. The volunteers are on hand to help parents through these difficult times.
