New Sidlesham cattery gets planning permission

A CATTERY was given the go-ahead despite attempts to block it over road-safety issues.

Mark Shepherd applied to Chichester District Council for permission for a 15-unit cattery at Highleigh Pound Cottage, in Highleigh Road, Sidlesham.

Councillors voted 15 to three at last Wednesday’s planning committee to allow the application.

However, Sidlesham’s district councillor Tricia Tull was against the application.

“It’s absolutely in the wrong place. I don’t feel there’s a need for it, it’s on a dangerous bend and it’s not in keeping in the area,” she said.

Petworth councillor Janet Duncton disagreed.

“I know the road, I don’t consider it to be an issue that good driving doesn’t solve,” she said. “I think this is a very good application. I can’t see how it would make a situation worse. It seems to me it’s very well designed.”

Sidlesham Parish Council objected on the grounds it was an ‘inappropriate development of a Grade-II-listed building’.
