The long-awaited reduction in speed limit through West Dean is already proving effective campaigners have said.
The new 30mph signs were put in place at the end of last week ahead of the new speed limit, onte A286, being made official on Tuesday, November 15.
The school and parish council have battled for a number of years to reduce the limit from 40mph, and believe they are already seeing the benefits.
West Dean parish councillor Steve Corbett said: “We are obviously very happy that this has finally come to pass.
“The initial reaction appears to be that the signs have made a difference, a lot of people have said that won’t last because it’s a novelty that people are slowing down, so we will wait and see about that.
“Undoubtedly it has made a difference in the past week or so.”
