People in the Chichester district get a chance to find out about their village shop in a new directory being launched today.
According to the district council, the shops offer a host of services residents may not be aware of.
“As well as everyday items, some of them have branched out and have cafés, a post room, a prescription service and internet, and you can even hire bikes,” said a council statement.
“Six village shops, including Compton, Kirdford and West Dean incorporate cafés or tearooms.
“The district is lucky to have over 30 rural village shops – and they are among the best in the South East, winning multiple awards.”
The directory includes a map showing the locations of village shops in the district, shop and post office opening times, details of the goods and services each shop provides and links to local walks and cycle routes.
Copies are available from libraries, village shops or tourist information centres. Alternatively, an online version can be downloaded from the village shop directory page on the council’s website, www.chichester.gov.uk/villageshopdirectory.
