‘No police investigation’ after fire at Bognor Regis property

Firefighters were joined by police officers at a property in Bognor this afternoon (Tuesday, July 14).

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said three crews were called to reports of a fire in a domestic property on High Street just before 1pm.

Police officers were pictured at the scene but Sussex Police confirmed it was a ‘non-suspicious fire’.

A spokesman said: “The fire service dealt with a small non-suspicious fire with no injury reported, in a flat at an address in High Street, Bognor on Tuesday afternoon.

“There is no police investigation.”

The fire service said that the fire was safely extinguished and ‘all persons were accounted for’.

“Two crews from Bognor Fire Station were mobilised to the scene along with a further appliance from Chichester Fire Station,” a spokesperson said. “Upon arrival crews were faced with a fire in a bedroom on the third floor of the property.

“All persons were accounted for, and crews used six sets of breathing apparatus to enter the building and three hose reels to extinguish the fire.

“The last crew left the scene at 2.35pm.”

Whilst the incident was ongoing, the fire service asked residents to keep doors and windows closed.
