Let's remember how to love our neighbour

The culture we live in seems to be obsessed with what is best for us as individuals, and yet Jesus spoke of loving our neighbour as we love ourselves.

Well, we seem to be doing ok with the loving ourselves bit, but what about our neighbour?

There are thousands of people struggling daily with loneliness. Whether it’s the elderly who may feel isolated; those with depression or mental illness, often suffering alone; or globally the millions of refugees who have lost everything and struggle just to live. Are they not our neighbour?

Everyone wants to feel loved and needed, isn’t that part of being human?

And whilst we have organisations, groups and governments to handle these situations, who is going to love them?

So, what if we started a Movement of Love?

What if we all tried to love just one more person?

Looking out for an elderly next-door neighbour perhaps?

Checking on a friend you haven’t seen for a while?

Stopping to talk to a homeless person and finding out their name?

Asking a relative ‘How are you?’ and actually wanting to know the answer, warts and all.

These are our neighbours. In our communities, our towns, our villages, our world. Let’s remember how to love our neighbour…

Faith Matters:

The Big Church Day Out is one of the UK’s largest Christian events that annually draws together 25,000 people of all ages for two action-packed days of fun, fellowship, music & worship on the beautiful Wiston Estate near Steyning.

It intends to tell the story of a church that is full of life, growing, and to be an exciting place for people currently in or outside of the church. The Happening:

On the third Sunday of every month, young people from across Sussex gather together to seek God, worship Jesus and encourage one another in discipleship.

The Happening is a non-denominational Christian youth event run by a collaboration of local youth leaders in order to provide a place for younger Christians to enjoy being together and grow in their walk with Jesus. It has been really popular with the smaller churches which only have small numbers of youth.

London Community Gospel Choir:

The famous London Community Gospel Choir, currently celebrating 30 years, are performing at St Mary’s Church, Petworth on Friday June 10th. Doors from 7pm.
