DAWN GRACIE: Networking can help in your quest to be the best

I KNOW that for some, networking is an activity regarded as a dreaded chore they must endure as a business activity, and I understand that not everyone is comfortable entering a room, to face the wall of business suits and even worse, their biggest competitor!

Some group organisers avoid this by limiting business sectors to ‘one of each’, but I find this a very strange approach.

After all, what’s wrong with conversation with those who understand what you do?

Granted, it can be daunting to come face-to-face with those you feel are winning business you’re after, but the way I see it, we should all be striving to be the best, but always with decent manners and respect for others.

My friend Helen Ruff of Doily Days wedding magazine had recently moved to Chichester and asked me to introduce her to local business, and this reignited an idea I had earlier in the year for an industry-specific gathering. No sooner had I put the word out, the attendee list grew to more than 50.

So it seems we are ready to meet and make those all-important referrals to help each other.

The event will be on Wednesday, December 4, 7pm-8.30pm at Chichester Park Hotel. Details on www.facebook.com/DawnsVintageDo
