Fishbourne a no-no

I AM intrigued by the suggestion from Arun District's cabinet member for planning (Observer, September 8) that Fishbourne might be a suitable location for a new town.

Not so! Fishbourne has actually been excluded from the list of possible locations in CDC’s Housing Numbers and Locations Consultation document. The reasons cited include the traffic congestion on the A27 (which is ‘more severe to the west and south-west of the city’), the environmental impact on Chichester Harbour and the wastewater capacity constraints at the Apuldram Wastewater Treatment Works for which no acceptable solution is foreseen during the period of the plan.
