Heads must roll

IT IS noted that Chichester District Council has lost some £250,000 from public funds, allocated for improvements to Chichester Canal, because they did not spend the money within the specified time.

Can we inquire as to who was actually responsible for this apparent negligence?

If it was the officers of the district council, then can we expect either disciplinary or remedial action to be taken against those officers responsible?

Alternatively, if it was specific elected members of the district council who were responsible, can we expect those individuals – including the leader of Chichester District Council – to compensate local taxpayers for this?

Perhaps they should consider donating their attendance allowances to public funds, as a gesture of both their remorse and goodwill?
