I had superb care at St Richard's

I HAVE to say that this is my first letter written to a newspaper in response to a letter that was published in a previous issue of the Observer relating to aftercare received on the Middleton Ward of St Richard's Hospital, Chichester, after a hip operation.

I also have had a complete hip replacement and after was put on to Middleton Ward for four days.

From my operation through recovery and on to Middleton Ward, I can only praise all of the staff involved who dealt with me during this stressful period.

They were all very professional, efficient and caring, totally dedicated to making my stay in hospital as pleasant and comfortable as possible.

More importantly, they seemed devoted to their patients’ well-being.

It’s not a place that we want to be by choice but I have to say once in the system, they do have the ability to make you feel safe and protected as if you are the only one they are looking after.

I am grateful to all the staff for my treatment and I am recovering well.

I have come away from my short stay on Middleton Ward with total admiration for all the staff for their resolve and dedication for the care they give, especially when dealing with the more difficult customer.

Nothing was too much bother for them if it helped your stay to be more pleasurable.

It’s easy to knock a service such as the NHS.

Sometimes situations happen that is difficult and frustrating, but I can guess it’s more annoying for staff who want everything to be perfect and right.

My advice to anyone staying in hospital, and they have a complaint, is to address it there and then so it can be resolved sooner rather than later, making perhaps a more efficient system.

I would like to say a big thank-you to Middleton Ward for making my stay a pleasant and memorable one for all the right reasons.

Keep doing what you do because you do it so well.
