LETTER: Bar buses from South Street

Now that the travelling public have become accustomed to the buses being temporarily barred from South Street, with the minimum of inconvenience, may I suggest that this becomes a permanent feature?

To avoid busses entering West Street, Tower Street and Chapel Street, I suggest that busses could terminate at the north end of Avenue de Chartres and return by the Westgate roundabout. Through buses could travel via the roundabout into Orchard Street and beyond.

Passengers wouldn’t have too much further to walk into the centre and it would bring West Street into line with East Street, and North Street where busses served at one time and we no longer hear complaints about their absence.

This would also have the benefit of preserving the brickwork that forms the road surface in South Street and West Street once the surface has been repaired and/or reinstated.

I make this suggestion as a regular user of the buses, accompanied by my wife who is confined to a wheelchair. We are both in our 88th year.
