‘Proper funding’ for the NHS needed – not clapping or a ‘royal’ title

The suggestion of sticking ‘Royal’ on to NHS is well-meaning but trivial and not enough – see this letter.

Clapping our hands to show our regard for NHS staff and the caring profession is heart-warming , but again not enough.

What is really needed is proper funding for the NHS and social care, to provide better facilities and equipment for staff to work with, much better salaries, more reasonable working hours and a better staff/patent ratio.

We could show a real commitment to the NHS by being prepared to properly fund it, maybe by a specific tax earmarked for the NHS.

A fair taxation system and a high-quality health service would contribute much to the ‘levelling up’ espoused by the current Prime Minister. Hopefully our regard for the health services will outlast the coronavirus pandemic.
