Elsie was born in Milland on April 16, 1920, and has lived in the Fernhurst area all her life.

She worked in the market garden department at ICI before she started working at the Duke of Cumberland Arms in Henley – where she stayed for 40 years, and only retired 20 years ago.

She married Bill at Fernhurst church in 1943 and they had two children, Dale and Stephanie, who have given Elsie four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Her sisters, Joan (99) and Vera (94), also live in the village and they are all members of the local luncheon and Good Companions clubs.

Elsie said her secret to long life is ‘simply a good diet and enjoying life’.

Unfortunately, her centenary celebrations had to be postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak, but Elsie is looking forward to celebrating with her friends and family later in the year.
