Board games and boxes of pasta among haul for litter pickers tidying up our roadside verges

Taking advantage of the dry, sunny weather, around 25 volunteers turned out in East Ashling at the weekend to collect roadside litter for the first time since the Covid-19 lockdown.

There was plenty to collect: apart from all the usual drinks cans, bottles and food wrappers, the volunteers found hubcaps, abandoned board games and a complete box of dried pasta.

After the clear-up the group met up – suitably socially distanced – at the Horse and Groom to compare notes over well-deserved coffees and cake, kindly provided by the pub’s management.
