Bognor Regis Motor Club’s (BRMC) annual fundraiser, featuring a classic car tour and picnic, started at Great Ballard School in Eartham, as usual, with Covid precautions in place as participants collected their packs and breakfast butties.

A fantastic selection of classic cars arrived from around the south of England to take part.

There was the cream of historic vehicles, many marques no longer in made, from the 1950s through to some later interesting modern sports cars.

These included Aston Martin, Austin, Austin Healey, Bentley, Bristol, Daimler, Hillman, Jaguar, Lotus, MG, Morgan, Triumph and Wolseley flying the flag for Britain, plus Alpine Renault, Audi, Ford Mustang, Mercedes, Porsche, Volvo and a few more for the rest of the world.

It was then on to Gatwick Aviation Museum for the picnic, and a tour of the museum, before the next leg of the tour to Coverwood Lakes, in Ewhurst, where Tim Metson and his family, who run the farm, welcomed everyone with a homemade scone, cream and jam served from their customised Airsteam Caravan.

The final leg saw the cars head back south, and a diversion meant the tour had to go through Cranleigh village centre where crowds were already gathered for the local Lions Club’s Classics on the Drive event, with cars arriving from the opposite direction.

After a 40-mile drive along lanes and quieter back roads, the tour arrived at Dale Park, Madehurst, for food served by Matt’s Hog Roast.

The 2020 Regis TAP raised more than £3,500 for Air Ambulance Kent Surrey Sussex.

Over the past ten years, the annual event has now raised more than £40,000 for charity.

Clerk of the course Ali Green said: “If we are going to do anything with our cars this year we need to adhere to guidelines.

“It has taken time to get our heads around what is required but once we had sorted that, we were determined to make the event a safe, social and financial success.

“Everyone behaved responsibly and was very appreciative of the efforts we and our venues had put in place to keep to Government guidelines.

“The event would not have been possible without the support of a fabulous team of very experienced voluntary marshals who gave up their day to ensure everyone had a safe and very enjoyable experience.

“Also, we couldn’t have done it without our wonderful venues.

“BRMC are also very grateful to Orchard Restorations of Heathfield, who generously sponsored the event for the ninth year.”

The club’s next event is the last of the summer series of Grass Autotests near Wisborough Green on Sunday (September 20).
