Bubble tea business starting up in Bognor Regis

Bubble Koi opened for business on April 24, based out of the owner’s home on 24 Holland Drive, it delivers to addresses in Bognor, Felpham, Rose Green, Middleton and Pagham for a small additional charge. Collection, however, is free.

Customers can mix and match flavours from a number of different 9 different base flavours and 9 different flavours of the drinks iconic tapioca pearl toppings, giving customers up to thirty fruit flavour combinations to experiment with.

Bubble tea, which originated in Taiwain in the 1980s, has become increasingly popular thanks to social media apps like TikTok and Instagram. The drink is a combination of fruit tea and tapioca pearl: chewy spheres filled with a flavour of the customers choice.

Owner Joshua Morice said he decided he wanted to start his own businessTi while delivering food for deliveroo.

“I was looking for other jobs and, because of the pandemic, there weren’t many to go around, really,” he said. “And I just thought ‘why don’t I start my own thing and work for myself?’”

“Deliveroo isn’t a very sustainable income. One day you could earn quite well and then the next day you could earn nothing, which wipes out the day before. So you’re kind of relying on people to order deliveries or order fast food for you to get paid.”

“I’ve always wanted to start my own business,” he added “but I never knew what to do.” With his father already in the catering industry, it seemed natural for Mr Morice to follow in his footsteps. When he and his partner tried bubble tea in Brighton last year, the seed of what would become Bubble Koi was planted.

“Me and my partner went to Churchill Square, got a bubble tea and really liked it. I had a chat with her and said I really wanted to start my own business, so we had a bit of a brain storm and decided on bubble tea.” Mr Morice said.
