Events will be held in Chichester and Worthing to support this year’s National Bike to Work Week.

The UK’s annual celebration of cycling starts on Saturday June 13 and West Sussex County Council is marking the occasion by hosting bikers’ breakfast events to encourage commuters to cycle to work instead of travelling by car.

Cyclists can take their bike along to a stand and grab a light breakfast to help refuel after their ride. They can also enter a free prize draw to win a £100 bike shop voucher.

The Worthing event takes place in Homefield Park on Tuesday June 16, while and the Chichester event is being held at the Market Cross in the city centre on Wednesday June 17.

Both events start at 7.30am and finish at 9.30am.

Cycling information will be available to pick up and staff will be on hand to offer advice.

At the Worthing event local mobile cycle mechanic Nigel Gardner from Cycle Matters will carry out free bike safety checks.

Free security marking will be offered at the Chichester event.

The first ever National Cycle Challenge is also being held to coincide with Bike Week.

The workplace challenge aims to encourage as many employees as possible to go on a bike ride for at least 10 minutes between June 8 and June 28 and log their journey on a website.

A number of prizes are available including a holiday for two to New Zealand.

The National Cycle Challenge builds on the success of local challenges, such as the Horsham and Chichester Cycle Challenges held in 2014.

Anyone who previously participated in these challenges can take part in the 2015 national challenge by logging in at the Horsham website or the Chichester website.
