The peregrine project has been run jointly by the cathedral, the Sussex Ornithological Society (SOS) and local wildlife enthusiasts David and Janet Shaw who have been observing the birds since 2001.

Taking to social media to make the announcement, a spokesman for the project said they were 'quite surprised' but 'very pleased' at seeing the first egg, which arrived at about 9.55am.
