Chichester road accident leaves motorcyclist in ‘absolute agony’

Emma Hoff was forced to swerve out of the way to avoid colliding with a car in Winterbourne Road on Wednesday morning.

The 24-year-old was on her way to Chichester Cattery and Pet Salon in Old Broyle Road, where she works as a dog groomer, at around 7.40am when a car drove out of Croft Mead.

“I was passing and they were about to go into the side of me,” she said. “I kind of slammed my brakes on while beeping. They weren’t going to stop so I had to swerve.”

Emma fell on the ground and her bike ended up ontop of her – but the car did not stop.

She said: “I just couldn’t believe that they just drove off and left me there.”

The police and an ambulance was called and thankfully some ‘lovely’ bystanders stayed with her until they arrived.

“I was in so much pain, I was very scared and in shock,” Emma said.

Her helmet was ‘all smashed up’, her visor had come off and her gloves were torn up from the impact, she added.

She was checked over by paramedics at the scene, who initially feared she may have broken her finger.

Emma said she was covered in ‘bumps and bruises’, had ‘hole’ in her leg from where the bike hit her and a very swollen knee.

“I’m in absolute agony today,” she said.

As she also suffers from fibromyalgia, she said the pain was ‘10 times what it should be’ – though she said things could be worse.

“I’m very lucky to have come out of it how I have done,” she said. “If I hadn’t swerved, I dread to think of the state I would be in.”

Emma, who has been riding a motorbike for seven years and has never had an accident before, said the whole incident was ‘absolutely horrible’ and said she wanted the driver of the car to come forward.

Police confirmed officers received a call at 8am to report a collision involving a car and a motorcycle.
