On Friday (November 13), Sarah Matthews will step out of her comfort zone to take on Children in Need’s Act your Age challenge to raise money for the charity.

Sarah, a keen cyclist with the ...a3crg time trial team, discovered the benefits of using weights as part of her cycle training last year when she learned how they helped reduce loss of muscle mass in menopausal women.

Regular trips to the gym stopped during the first national lockdown in March, so Sarah began using free weights and resistance bands at her home in Hawksfold Lane West to stay strong.

While working from home she has been doing five minutes of exercise every 75 minutes.

Sarah said: “There are lots of business and exercise gurus that recommend that people with desk jobs get up and move around regularly during the day to keep their mind and body in good shape.

“It’s very easy to plan to do it but not easy to stick to.

“I’ve set an alarm in my phone so I know that it’s time for a few minutes of hula hooping outside if it’s dry, or doing single leg squats in the kitchen whilst I wait for the kettle to boil.”

Sarah has been doing some of her 60 exercises each day for the last few weeks but said doing all 60 at once will be tough challenge.

She will be taking on her Act your Age challenge at home due to the second national lockdown and is keeping her fingers crossed for dry weather as she has to do a few exercises outside.
