Harry Potter-themed café opens in Sussex for Christmas

A West Sussex café has been transformed into a Hogwarts winter wonderland with the magic touch of one of the owners.

Michael Crayton, 39, spent the last few months turning The Honeypot Café in Sea Lane, Rustington, into the The Honeypotter for Christmas, making decorations for each of the themed Harry Potter rooms and commissioning portraits of characters by local artist Sandy East.

Dressed as the titular character, Michael opened the newly-redecorated café last Monday with an eagle owl as the VIP.

He said: “It’s a bit of escapism, which I think everyone needs right now. It’s been my escapism for the last nine months – I don’t what I’m going to do now!”

The highlights include the bar area being turned into Gringotts Bank, and the two toilets being transfigured into Ollivanders wand shop and Slug & Jiggers Apothecary, filled with potions painstakingly made by hand by Michael.

The menu will also reflect the Harry Potter theme, including butterbeer lattes.

In previous years, Michael has transformed the café into Narnia and A Christmas Carol-themed space.

Michael and his mother Elizabeth have been running the business together for six years, having previously had their own bakery.
