Despite museums now being allowed to reopen after lockdown, trustees chose not to as Bognor Museum operates in a small building where ‘social distancing would be difficult’. Many of its volunteer stewards are also still self-isolating or shielding.

A spokesperson said: “Mindful that the charity which operates the attraction, Bognor Regis Local History, has as it’s aims to advance the education of the public by the study of the history and archaeology of Bognor Regis and district, it decided that just staying shut wasn’t an option.

“Now, visitors are able take a virtual tour of the Museum including opportunities to go where you can’t usually access, including the Artefact Room, inside Alice’s Kitchen and the Kay Fall Research Room.

“And because all the protective screens were removed to avoid camera glare, you can get right up and personal with most of the displays.”

Society chairman Greg Burt said: “Every winter during the closed season our volunteers work hard to create new or improved displays, so we thought it would be a shame if that work wouldn’t be appreciated this season.

“Our sincere thanks to Dave Treagust and Explore 3D Tours Ltd for helping us to use the very latest technology to continue to promote Bognor Regis’s wonderful past.”
