Ordnance found on Selsey beach

An ordnance was discovered at on the beach in Selsey today (Monday, April 5).

On its Facebook page, Selsey Coastguard Rescue Team said the item was spotted at the top of West Beach.

Its team received a report just before 7.30am.

The item reported was located, photographs taken and sent to the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team), a cordon was put in place and the beach closed off.

The EOD team arrived at the scene and carried out a controlled explosion at around 10.45am before the beach was reopened.

Selsey Coastguard Rescue Team said if anyone comes across anything suspicious or unusual on the beach, they should not touch it and dial 999 instead, askingfor the Coastguard.
