Person’s life saved by RNLI crew after jumping from Sussex pier

A person who had jumped from a Sussex pier into the sea was saved by RNLI volunteer crewmen this morning (Saturday, November 14).

At 5.10am HM Coastguard received a 999 call to say a person had jumped from the pier and required help.

The RNLI was tasked to the incident, which took place off Brighton Palace Pier, and within 19 minutes from the 999 call, Brighton Lifeboat was on scene and assisting the casualty onto the lifeboat.

The casualty was taken back to Brighton Marina where they were handed over to South East Coast Ambulance Service.

Roland Farrar, commander of Brighton Lifeboat, said: “Thanks to the fantastic cooperation between police, coastguard and the lifeboat and despite challenging conditions we managed to secure a good outcome for the casualty.

“Please stay away from the water at night. The sea is extremely dangerous, especially now the weather is becoming more unpredictable.”
