Set up by St Pancras' resident Harry Nix, the petition calls for enforcement of speed limit to protect cyclists and pedestrians from 'speeding vehicles' and heavy traffic.

Speaking to this newspaper, software engineer Harry said: "It's a 30 limit but there's absolutely zero speed enforcement so people break the speed limit all the time.

"Cars just come flying down the road so, really I think it needs to be a slower speed limit but mainly there needs to be some sort of enforcement. Either one of those signs that flashed up your speed or speed cameras.

"From speaking to local residents there is concern that the on-road parking would have to be removed if there were cycle lanes so I think really our preferred requirements are for it to go down to a 20mph so the road can be shared for cyclists and cars and just make it safer fro everyone.

"The people that I have spoken to would all like to see some change and see similiar issues that I do. It's not just the traffic it's the noise and air pollution."

Mr Nix has a target of 250 signiatures — from then he will forward the petition to West Sussex County Council.
