Petworth community comes together for moving remembrance video

Organised and filmed by Ben Streeter, Nathan Fynes and Rebecca Ledger from Petworth Band, the video brought together people from across the community to commemorate remembrance.

Ben, who serves in the armed forces, said: "We just tried to bring as many people around the community as we could do to do remembrance as best as we could.

"My mum is the musical director and my dad is the band master, so I grew up in the band as a youngster.

"Lockdown has stopped any musical activity so it was a nice way to keep the band together."

Ben said it was a 'fairly last minute' idea but has been a success, attracting nearly 5,000 views and more than £350 for the Royal British Legion.

Janet Duncton, West Sussex county councillor for Petworth, was featured in the video.

She said: "It included 11 of us reading one line from the poem and then The Last Post. Congratulations to Petworth Town Band."

Councillor Duncton said traffic stopped during a small service at the war memorial in Petworth.

"Those people who lost their lives were in much more difficult situations than we are now, when you think of what those men went through in two world wars," she said.

"We have managed, this year, to make some sort of celebration for Sussex Day, VJ Day and now Armistice Day and that's great. I am very proud of everybody. Everybody is making an effort."
