Town councillor Harsha Desai said she is a 'massive supporter' of the Friends of Chichester Hospital after the care she received giving birth to her daughter almost eight years ago.

"I got to know the organisation that way and over the years we have done various things," she said.

They include charity curry suppers organised by her parents, one of which was due to go ahead on Saturday but had to be cancelled due to the government lockdown.

Harsha continued: "I thought, I have to do something. [My hair] is not super long but it will definitely be a drastic change."

She had originally set a fundraising target of £200 but has since surpassed the £600 mark and now hopes to reach £1000 in total.

"I want to say a massive thank you, really, people have been so kind and I have had amazing amounts donated by all sorts of people. In the first half hour I was already half way through my target.

"People have been really generous, it's been more than I expected."

Harsha, who is working as part of the Petworth town council and Petworth Vision Covid-19 helpline urged people to continue taking care of themselves and others.
