Plans for major Tangmere development formally submitted

The residential-led mixed use development would also include a primary school, an expanded village centre, comprising 'flexible units', community uses, footpaths and cycle ways.

An outline planning application (20/02893/OUT) was submitted this week by Countryside Properties, which was selected to help deliver the project in September 2018.

The developers said a number of changes were made to proposals 'as a result of the feedback we have received'.

This includes; the removal of the row of homes proposed south of Cheshire Crescent; improvements to on-site cycle infrastructure and the links to off-site routes and Public Rights of Way (PROW); changing proposals for the Tangmere Road junction from 60mph to 40mph specification, subject to achievement of a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO); adding a potential extension to the St Andrew’s graveyard area; proposing to move the allotment parking closer to the church to aid with overflow church parking and a separate four-metre wide principal north-south cycleway now runs through the green corridor, in addition to the strategic cycleway alongside the spine road.

A spokesperson said: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for engaging with us over the past two years, and for all the feedback we have received which has helped us in shaping our plans for the Tangmere SDL."

The site is one of Chichester District Council’s strategic development locations. It has the support of Tangmere Parish Council and is part of its neighbourhood plan.

A Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) was formally made to help progress the major development earlier this month.

The spokesperson for the developers said: "Thank you to all those who have continued to engage with us over the past two years, and for all the feedback that has been shared which has helped us in shaping our plans for the Tangmere SDL.

"The council will now undertake its own consultation on the application before making a decision on the application. It is expected that a decision would be made in spring 2021 and we will continue to keep the community updates with the progress of the application.

"Subject to planning permission, we would look to progress detailed designs and look forward to continuing the conversation with you."
