Teacher to take on sixth fundraising challenge in memory of her late husband

Over the bank holiday weekend the Bognor Regis teacher is taking on her sixth challenge as she walks around the Isle of Wight, a place which holds pleasant memories for her.

Vikki said: “The Isle of Wight was always a special place for us. He arranged a surprise birthday weekend away one year.”

Vikki is raising money for St Wilfrid’s Hospice, in Bosham, which offered support in the final weeks of Guy’s life.

She said: “The palliative home care team were there for me every moment in those final weeks. When I needed help, support or just a hug they were there for me. Words cannot express the amount of gratitude and admiration I have for the hospice and their amazing staff.”

The hospice relies heavily on donations and has suffered without the help of fundraising events, charity shops and other activities over the past few months.

Vikki, who is subject leader of drama at Midhurst Rother College, is so determined to help the charity she has completed many other challenges over the years, including climbing Mount Snowdon, bike rides to Hayling Island, walking the Downs Link and the 100-mile South Downs Way.

Vikki said: “I simply cannot stop; I need to do something big each year.

“I always feel he is with me, encouraging me, telling me not to give up.

“Every year of fundraising I feel one step closer to repaying the thanks to those wonderful people who were there for us both.”

Vikki has already smashed through her £1,000 target to raise £1,200 for St Wilfrid’s.
