Alongside several photos of the Duke of Edinburgh, the display also features an assortment of militaria, including insignias, flags, photos, uniforms and decommissioned weapons.

The ex-Commando said: “(Philip) was the commandant general of the Royal Marines. Around Bognor, there’s quite a few Royal Marines, so this week, up until his funeral, we’ll be putting different pictures of the Duke in the window because he was a serviceman like us.”

More than just Prince Philip, the retired bootneck said the display was also about paying tribute to troops past and present.

“We thought we would do it because this year is the anniversary of the Royal British Legion being formed. We celebrate it every year but I think we need to think about how we depict servicemen,” he explained.

“There aren’t any veterans left from the First World War and you could probably count on one hand the veterans that are left from the Second World War.”

Between them, the two servicemen have almost 60 years of experience in the armed forces and say that part of their work with Grandad’s Front Room is about giving back to the armed forces community.

“If we can help veterans, we will,” the ex-marine said.

The display has gone down well with members of the service community, with one veteran even stopping by to salute the display on his way into town.
