Petworth OAP’s sex assault on 18-year-old

A PETWORTH man was today (Tuesday, July 29) given a suspended sentence for sexually assaulting a man 59 years his junior.

Married Donald Greenslade, 77, from Grove Street, in Petworth, was sentenced at Chichester Crown Court.

He pleaded guilty to sexual assault at a previous hearing.

The incident occurred in August, 2009, when he sexually assaulted an 18-year-old man.

Defending, Jason Halsey said Greenslade’s actions were spurred on by ‘unrequited feelings’.

Sentencing, recorder Harold Persaud, said: “You can see the profound effect it had on him [the victim].

“He said that you have ruined his life and made him feel physically sick. He feels robbed of his dignity.”

Recorder Persuad said because Greenslade had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and was a man of previous good character, he would not face the maximum penalty of two years in prison.

Greenslade received an eight month prison sentence suspended for two years, was made subject to a supervision order and was ordered to attend the Thames Valley Sex Offenders Group Work Programme.
