Phone lines down at schools and libraries in Bognor and Chichester

Residents are being thanked for their patience during a technical glitch affecting the County Council’s Contact Centre in Bognor Regis.

Telephone lines were disrupted this morning, Thursday, April 21, however, backup plans meant staff were relocated to County Hall North, Horsham, and phone lines were back up and running by 1pm.

However, the relocated Contact Centre is initially running with a limited capability and residents are being asked to only get in touch if their enquiry is urgent.

Phone lines are understood to still be down at the following places:

Wittering Library; Selsey Library; Seal Primary; Manhood School; East Wittering School; Selsey Fire Station (emergency 999 calls are not affected); Wittering Fire Station (emergency 999 calls are not affected); Durban House, Bognor; St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester (WSCC office only).

Work to fix the fault, which has been traced to a link between Chichester and Bognor Regis, is being treated with the highest priority by Capita and BT with engineers attempting to re-route traffic as an interim measure, West Sussex County Council said in a statement.

A spokesperson said: “The county council apologises for any inconvenience and will update residents further as soon as possible.”
