THOUSANDS of people lined Selsey High Street for its ‘best ever’ Christmas lights switch-on and parade.
The community turned out in force on Saturday night (November 29).
Brian Plater is president of Selsey Lions Club, and also played Santa on the night.
“This year’s event has got to be one of the best yet,” he said.
“The lions club organises the sleigh and raises money, though we’re not sure how much we’ve raised yet.
“There must have been about 300 children waiting to meet Santa! I just love seeing the kids faces, they light up. And some of the things they come out with are hilarious - I got asked for an iPod and a hamster, among other things.
“There was a fantastic turn out this year, with huge crowds. There must have been thousands of people out in Selsey.
“Everybody really mucks in and helps.
“There’s a really great atmosphere - everybody chips in, helping with the lights and decorations.
“The scouts and beavers also got involved with the parade, having missed out last year, so that was nice to see.
“It was just like it used to be years ago, with the huge parade and conga.
“This was the fifth time I have been Santa, and it just gets better.”
