People of all ages flocked to Donnington Recreation Ground on Sunday for the village's first family fun day in seven years.
Donnington Parish Council set aside funds for the event so a day of family fun could be laid on as near as free as possible for all the residents.
Samantha Houston, one of the parish councillors helping organise the event, said: “The event was last held in 2009.
“This year’s event was not to quite the same scale as the early days but with seven stalls, a bouncy castle, face painting, tractor rides and Malcolm the Magician, there was plenty to keep the family busy.
“On top of this, there was Simon of the Cafetini coffee van, commonly seen at Chichester Parkrun, fabulous hot food by the local O’Hagan’s Sausages and delicious homemade ice-cream from Dylan’s.
“The event raised in excess of £150, which will be donated to local charity Chestnut Tree House.”
Samantha and Amanda Jeffery, both working mothers, were put in charge of the fun day following positive feedback from a parish questionnaire about hosting an event.
Samantha said: “It was a pleasure organising the event with Amanda. I think we have both learned a lot from our first attempt and there was some really encouraging feedback.
“We wanted to provide an event to bring the community together with plenty of free activities. The event also gave us the opportunity to present the community with our ideas on improving the playground at Wiston Avenue.
“Amanda has been working hard on preparing a business case to access funding for the work, which will make the playground cohesive and cater for children across a wider range of ages.”
The event also raised awareness of the A27 bypass improvement scheme.
