PLANS to turn a garden centre into a business park have been met by hostility.

Witterings business centre plan unpopular with residents

Jefferson Holdings Ltd have submitted plans for Chichester District Council to change the use of the site in West Wittering, which is currently Bramber Plant Centre.

But at West Wittering’s parish council meeting, residents pointed out a number of errors and issues with the application.

One resident described the plan as ‘laughable’, and said the applicant had not provided enough information in their proposals.

The parish council decided to object to the application, stating: “This is a rural site, close to the Chichester Harbour and tourism is key to the economic wellbeing of the village.

“The proposal is unsuitable in this location and undesirable as it is close to residential properties.

“There is no main drainage at the site even though the applicant has indicated that there is.

“The site is low-lying and there are surface drainage problems associated with the immediate area.

“There are several inaccurate statements and insufficient detail for the application to be properly considered.”

One resident said the application was ‘totally out of keeping with the neighbourhood’, and another complained there had not been enough consultation with the community over the plans.

The determination deadline is January 16.
