POLICE have launched a rape investigation after a teenage girl said she was attacked in a tent in a Selsey.

The incident is alleged to have happened on the recreation ground in Hillfield Road and was reported to police at 3.49am today (July 29) after the victim contacted her family.

“A 17-year-old youth and a 21-year-old man, both from Selsey, were arrested in the village on suspicion of rape shortly before 6am,” said Sussex Police.

“Both are currently in custody for questioning.

“The recreation ground has been cordoned off while investigations continue.”

Police have confirmed they are not linking the attack to an incident in Fontwell Road, Selsey, on July 22, in which a 21-year-old woman was flagged down and grabbed by a man as she got out of her car.

Local enquiries are being made and anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious was asked to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phone 101, quoting serial 155 of 29/7.

Alternatively they can call the independent charity Crimestoppers without having to leave their name on 0800 555 111.
