PC Doug Park, of Sussex Police road policing investigations, said: “We are really keen to speak to the driver of a dark green Land Rover Defender, who was at the scene following the collision and would have witnessed the car engulfed in flames.”
The driver who died at the scene is still yet to be formally identified, although a spokesman said the force believes it knows who he was.
The black BMW M3 hit a tree close to Goodwood racecourse before catching fire.
