Police presence in Arundel for funeral

There is a police presence in Arundel today as hundreds of mourners are expected to descend on the town for the funeral of a well known member of the traveller community.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Police are aware of a large funeral taking place in Arundel on Tuesday (November 3) and are anticipating that there will be a large number of people attending.

“However, no advice has been given to publicans or other businesses with regard to closing, other than that there will be a police presence.”

A spokesman for the Red Lion Pub in the High Street said the pub would be closed today, while the Swan Hotel in the High Street is also closed for refurbishment.

The Crossbush Beefeater Restaurant in Crossbush Lane will open only to Premier Inn guests this evening.
