Police renew appeal over assault on woman after Chichester night out

Police officers will be at an alleyway tonight and tomorrow where a woman was assaulted to encourage potential witnesses to come forward with information.

A 38-year-old Chichester woman was walking through an alleyway that links St Paul’s Road and Duncan Road at around 10.30pm last Saturday, January 23 when she was grabbed from behind and forced to the floor.

According to police the victim managed to punch the suspect and break free, escaping with only minor injuries.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Scullion said: “It is now almost a week since this attack was reported to us and we are continuing to appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

“PCSOs will be in place at either end of the alleyway between 9.30pm and 11.30pm on Friday, January 29 and Saturday, January 30 to give any potential witnesses a chance to help with the investigation.”

The suspect is described as a white man, 6ft, of skinny build, aged in his late 30s or early 40s, with short dark hair and stubble.

He also had a prominent Adam’s apple, dark bushy eyebrows with dark hair on the back of his hands and he was wearing a dark jacket and brown deck shoes, police said.

DS Scullion added: “This was an isolated incident which has left the victim very shaken. We would urge anyone who saw what happened or who perhaps recognises the description of the suspect to get in touch.”
