Police warning after car break-ins in Chichester

Sussex Police have issued a warning after numerous cars were targeted in Chichester.

A Mazda MX5 in Cedar Drive was broken into between 12 noon on Sunday (May 15) and 11.30am on Monday (May 16). The car was thoroughly searched and £20 was stolen.

On Monday morning, the owner of a Citroen Belingo was called by a neighbour to say that the rear door of the car was open.

Police believe it had been broken into sometime overnight and a purse containing a few pounds was stolen.

On the same night, in nearby Sherborne Road, a VW Caddy was discovered with its doors open on the driveway of the owner’s home. A small amount of cash, a first aid bag and a Samsung car phone charger were stolen.

Also, a Vauxhall Astra, parked in Newlands Lane, was broken into on the following night (Monday/Tuesday). A small amount of damage was caused to a lock and a box of chocolates and a bottle of Baileys were taken.

Police have urged local car owners to ensure that their vehicles are securely locked and any valuable items are removed or at the very least hidden from sight.
