AN ELDERLY man from Selsey has paid out almost £11,000 to work which police say was ‘well below standard’.

Police are now warning residents to be vigilant, and have made three arrests in connection with the incident.

Chichester Police said: “On March 31, an elderly gentleman went to the bank to withdraw a large sum of cash and the bank alerted Sussex Police.

“The gentleman stated that this was for building works but suspicion was aroused as when looking through the victims bank statement it would appear that almost £11,000 had been taken out since the beginning of February.

“The victim describes two males as doing works at his address as white, between 30 and 40 years of age and as having local accents. They drove a white tipper truck.

“The work they have completed at the victims address which is in Seal Road in Selsey is well below standard and Trading Standards are working with the police.

“Three suspects have been arrested and are on police bail.”

Police said if anyone sees anything suspicious in the area, or sees a vehicle and people matching these descriptions cold calling in the area please call police on 101 with the reference 552 31/03/14.
