Apuldram centre seeks planning permission for holiday units

A GARDEN centre in Apuldram is hoping to diversify its business and provide accommodation on site.

Cedar Garden Centre, in Birdham Road, wants to install eight self-catering holiday units with the intention of providing all-year-round residential training courses and hobby breaks for plant and tree enthusiasts, as well as holiday accommodation for general visitors to the area.

The company said it was the next stage in its business development plan, having been developed from a general retail nursery to a specialist retail garden centre.

The accommodation would be provided on an undeveloped 0.55 hectare area of the site, behind the retail area.

Plans submitted to Chichester District Council said existing parking and access arrangements would be unaffected, but if permission was granted then it would want to further improve facilities by demolishing some of the existing glasshouses and increasing the landscaped areas.

There would be paths from the car park to the holiday lets, suitable for wheelchairs and buggies while the existing detached house would remain in separate, independent use.

The lets would be designed to look like barn conversions, with traditional materials used.

Plans submitted to Chichester District Council said the proposals were a sustainable form of economic development.
