An application, which was initially for 64 beds, outlined plans to develop the agricultural land at Park Farm in Park Lane.

The application site, based near the Asda supermarket and a Costa Coffee outlet, had previously been identified for a hotel and medical use but the planning permission expired.

The applicant had previously said the proposed care home would 'contribute to the need for older person’s accommodation'.

The planning statement added: "The proposed development will employ 70-80 full-time equivalent employees once operational. In addition, the proposed development will employ approximately 70-80 part-time employees, equating to an additional 25-30 full time employees.

"The proposed care home will provide modern facilities to meet the identified needs of the ageing population locally. It will include a specific design approach and an environment suited towards the provision of specialist dementia care, to meet a growing need in this area."

Having previously applied for a 64-bed care home, the developers requested that this be upgraded to 70.

Selsey Town council, which supported the application, 'considered a response to this variation' and found 'no planning grounds' for objection.

West Sussex Highways also gave no objection to the proposed increase in beds, with there being 'no noticeable further impacts on traffic and transport'.

The care home must be built by September 25, 2023, as stated by Chichester District Council in its decision notice.
