Developer Welbeck Strategic Land wants to build on a field west of Church Lane opposite the junction of Church Farm Lane.

Of the 78 homes, 30 per cent would be affordable with informal open spaces proposed along the western edge and southern boundary.

Objections have already been lodged against the application.

One resident described how the area had suffered several years of construction traffic, noise and pollution from two big developments and ‘enough is enough’.

Another objector said: “Another greenfield development is totally unacceptable for numerous reasons including; the infrastructure currently in place is not fit for purpose with various issues including lack of facilities.

“The road network around this area is an absolute joke - the conditions currently are becoming an accident waiting to happen, they are poorly maintained - and poorly repaired if and when they get attention, making the outcome far worse.

“Too much traffic is on the roads already and with the prospects of more houses means more traffic to contend with, insufficient parking is given to these new developments that do not contain the cars that come with the new inhabitants.”

The application describes how to the north is a parcel of land looking to be developed in the near future ‘connecting the site from the built up edge of East Wittering and housing at Furzefield’.

The vision would be to deliver a ‘semi-rural’ development of the ‘highest architectural quality’, providing a range of unit sizes including a focus on smaller one, two and three-bedroom homes.

According to the application: “The scheme aims to help enrich the community and provide positive development for the growing needs of housing in the Chichester district. It achieves this through a number of carefully considered features; including the enhancement of the amenity spaces towards the edge of the site and the development of an attenuation basins.

“The site will also provide a number of additional footpaths, which will connect the landscape areas together. The landscape area will also provide a play area for young children to further the development of a community.”
