FOR the eighth year running, the hugely-popular Scarecrow Day will return to the village of Oving.
Always an entertaining day for all the family, this year’s event takes place on Saturday, May 9.
On most of the roads around the village, a wide variety of themed scarecrows will proudly be displayed outside people’s homes, each hoping they are voted the winners.
Ian Mann from the Oving Scarecrow committee said: “Scarecrow Day is organised by a small group of Oving villagers whose aim is to provide a good-quality family day, while trying to keep the cost of activities to a minimum.
“The committee understand that it is important to offer a day where families can enjoy their precious time together without breaking the bank.”
The people of Oving always get behind the event with gusto and organisers want to again encourage as many people as possible to take part.
Scarecrows can be of a traditional style, a celebrity, pop star, famous TV or film star and sports personality, the possibilities are endless.
People from outside the village can also enter and anyone who needs help building a scarecrow can get in touch to receive an instruction leaflet.
Once again there will be arts and crafts, the popular tractor rides through the village, birds of prey and everyone’s favourites, the giants of steam from Amberley Chalk Pits.
When the day’s events are over, the village hall becomes the venue for the Scarecrow Day barn dance with a live band. Volunteers are wanted to help organise the event.
