A VISIT that lifted ‘everybody’s spirits’ saw the Princess Royal arrive in Chidham today (July 25).
Princess Anne arrived at the Christian Youth Enterprises Sailing Centre (CYESC) in Chidham just after midday.
During her visit she was given a tour of the £1.25m TS Resolute, the activity centre opened in April, 2011.
High Sheriff of West Sussex Patrick Burgess spoke warmly of the royal visit.
“A visit like this lifts everybody’s spirits and makes us all concentrate on what’s both practical and good in our community and gives everyone a bit of a glow.”
President of the Royal Yachting Association, Princess Anne was taken out on a safety boat onto the water, where she watched members of the CYE sailing and racing.
On her return to shore, she nearly became part of an impromptu rescue, as a Wanderer dinghy overturned and the princess’ boat went to see if the two-person crew was alright.
After seeing all was well, her boat returned to shore, where she unveiled a plaque on board the TS Resolute, before departing a little after 2.30pm.
