Prison escapee to face charges

A MAN who walked out of Ford Prison has been charged with escaping from custody.

Sussex Police launched an operation to track down Paul Flint, 48, after he left the prison on Monday, July 1.

Flint, who was arrested on Friday, September 6, n Wellington Road, Horsham, after a member of the public saw him in the town and called police, has now been charged with escaping from custody and will appear at Lewes Crown Court on September 30.

He was also arrested on suspicion of carrying out three burglaries in Brighton and Hove in July and August. He was questioned before being formally released on bail for the burglary offences until Monday, October 7, although he will remain in prison because of his other convictions.

Sussex Police launched Operation Magpie to tackle burglary across the county.

A police spokesman said: “We would like to thank everyone who has contacted us with possible sightings of Flint since he went missing. It is because of the public’s help that he has now been returned to prison.”
